How Do You Network?
Last week I attended Women ‘n’ Wine, a social networking event hosted by Author Nancy Nichols (Secrets of the Ultimate Husband Hunter). Sponsored in part by VIP Memphis, Women ‘n’ Wine is an opportunity for professional women of all backgrounds and ages to come together to enjoy good food, conversation, and make possible business relationships as well. Admission was only a $1 (to cover your nametag; food & wine was not included).
I met photographers, independent consultants (Style Junkie’s Andrea Jones was in attendance), nurses, real estate agents, jewelry designers, etc. The cool thing about it was that we were in an intimate setting (this meet-up was at Amerigo’s) so everyone was able to sip some wine and enjoy themselves as if they were meeting with friends.
I have to say, I hope more networking events of this nature take place because it’s a great opportunity to meet fabulous people. Arts Day in Memphis
Yesterday Mayor A C Wharton, Jr. proclaimed Tuesday, June 22 as Arts Day in the city of Memphis. ArtsMemphis coordinate an Arts Fair & Artist Market downtown at the Civic Center Plaza; it included performances by New Ballet Ensemble, American Soul Music/Stax Music Academy and Stax Museum. It was also City-Wide Jeans Days. Individuals and businesses that participated allowed employees who donated $5 to wear jeans/casual clothes to work. Proceeds were donated to Arts Memphis, an organization dedicated to raising funds to ensure excellence in the arts and build a vibrant cultural community for everyone.
There were informational booths from the Center for Southern Folklore, Memphis Music Foundation, Playhouse on the Square, UrbanArt, and The Brooks Museum just to name a few. There were also local vendors on hand with artwork and jewelry for purchase.
Although I was late, I’m glad that I attended because it was an opportunity for me to find out more about Memphis’ diverse art community. There are quite a few plays and art exhibits (particularly Who Shot Rock & Roll: A Photographic History exhibit at the Brooks Museum that will run from June 26-September 26) that I plan to check out in the upcoming weeks.
Memphis' art community is so rich. Take the time out to support while also having some fun!

Eye-Con Couture Casting Call
Last week, Eye-Con Couture (a chic, trendy boutique in Midtown Memphis) hosted a casting call for “Eye-Candies”. In celebration of their 5th Year Anniversary, Eye-Con Couture was in search of an eclectic group of girls interested in becoming a part of the Eye-Con brand.
I sat down with the owner, Tanyel Hobson-Walton, to get more details behind the campaign and it sounds like an opportunity of a lifetime for all participants. A statuesque beauty, Tanyel has been involved with the modeling industry since she was 14, so she understands the work that goes into having a successful modeling career. She’s done runway, print, and has experience in theater, so she knows it’s about more than just taking cute photos.
Looking for the total package (beauty, brains, & personality), but not from the typical “model”, her goal is to select a diverse group of girls who, with a little touch of glamour and training, can transform into an “Eye-Con”. Not only will those selected as Eye-Candies be part of Eye-Con’s personal brand, but this is the chance to be seen on a global scale, with a calendar, online and print exposure. With her vast knowledge of the industry, the models involved would be wise to soak up any and all knowledge that comes their way.

Spotlight: BG Magazine Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary
If you’ve ever been in the company of Tameiko Yancey, then you know that she is quite the firecracker. Beautiful with a fun, outgoing personality, Tameiko is extremely ambitious and business savvy, so it makes perfect sense that she decided to publish a magazine that's reflective of her character: BG Magazine. Celebrating their one year anniversary, BG Magazine is for the “Bad Girl” in all women. Chock full of tips on health & beauty, fashion, and relationships, BG Magazine also highlights local success stories of our fellow Memphians.
Run entirely by a team of minority women (can you say ultimate Girl Power?), BG Magazine is building quite the buzz, with no signs of stopping. Their mission is to empower all women everywhere, and by not limiting themselves to a specific market or sector, they are quickly expanding their readership, while helping other "Bad Girls" do the same with their own networks.
It makes me happy (and quite proud) to see strong, confident women taking on media, offering a quality product and proving the naysayers wrong. I salute Ms. Yancey for providing people with a magazine that is not only fun to read, but also electing to build a team like the one she has. It's an inspiration for any woman that's pursuing her goals. With hard work, dedication, and a good team, anything is possible!

Stiletto Bar Grand Opening
Saturday, June 5 marked the Grand Opening of the Stiletto Bar,a new women’s accessory store owned by Jara Robinson. Located in the renovated Hickory Ridge Mall, visitors were able to enjoy free food, drinks, and live music while trying on an ecclectic mix of shoes, handbags, and jewelry. Designed to look like a plushed out closet, Stilett Bar’s motto is to shop, sip, & slip into a pair! Boasting over 50 styles of shoes, and exclusive hand crafted earrings, it’s sure to be a fashionista’s dream! Swing by one day to see of there’s anything in the mix for you.

Head Over Heels!
Friday marked Style Junkie's monthly Head Over Heels event. Always a fun time, I got to catch up with the owner, Andrea for bit (this lady has big plans ahead)and I picked out an uber cute necklace that I rocked the next night while out with friends (sorry, no pictures; too much debauchery took place to document ;D)). Nikki from Nikki T Fashions was also on deck with a few pieces for shoppers to try on. Special discounts were available to those in attendance, with a portion of the night's proceeds donated to Girls Inc.
Ladies, be warned: if you visit their website or have an appointment with them, buy whatever you like at that moment. Do NOT wait! Their sizes are limited and you might miss out on that hot piece that would’ve been perfect for you!

Nature Break
Last week I decided to take a mental day and spend some time at Memphis Botanic Gardens. The last time I’d visited was years ago for a work event so this was my first time actually getting a chance to stroll around the grounds. While it was a VERY warm and humid day (welcome to summer in Memphis lol), it was probably one of my most relaxing walks. Over 96 acres of sweeping vistas, MBG is made up of lakes and woodlands, display gardens and the renowned Japanese Garden (where I spent the most time) & Sensory Garden. There’s a quoi pond, lake, and a children’s exhibit where kids can run around and play house while also learning a bit about horticulture.
If you ever need to get away and just walk, or hang with friends and have a picnic, check out MBG. Admission is only $5 for adults ($3 for kids 3-12, free for those under 2) and it’s an easy and safe way to enjoy nature, because sometimes, that’s all you need!

J’Adore Magazine x Lights Camera Fashion host Model Call in Memphis***Updated***
Alright ladies, time to break out your hottest swimsuits and killer heels. This Friday, J'Adore Magazine (a sexy, chic, life & style magazine for men and women) will be hosting a Model Call at The Republic Nightclub for a PAID Swim Suite Competition.
The Girl chosen at the call will go on to compete for a cash prize and feature spread in J'Adore Magazine. That competition will be held July 2nd and will be judged by the beautiful Vivica A. Fox!
